My name is Ben Hoffman and I am the High School Visual Arts Teacher at Kutztown Area High School. I just recently completed my M.Ed. in Art Education and decided to continue on my journey in pursing my M.A. in Arts Administration. Learning is incredibly important to me as is advocacy. As a practicing artist, I find enjoyment in the fine details, and often get caught up in those imperfections within my own work.

When not involved in the art world, I serve as a volunteer firefighter and enjoy serving our community. The thrill of waking up in the middle of the night to an alarm sounding is unlike any other experience. Much like teaching art, the unpredictability of what comes from students and their own interests in what excites me day in and day out.

Though I love to travel and explore, my favorite place to be is outside around a fire pit. The enjoyment in sitting outside, watching the embers crawl across the surface is mesmerizing. Two of my favorite artists include Josef Albers and Victor Vasarely. My own work is derivative of their theories and my fascination for color and space is what inspires me most from their work.

This past year has been an incredibly special and exciting year. Since last July, my now wife and I got married, we welcomed a puppy into our family and bought our first home here in Kutztown. I imagine like many of you, being the Art Teacher or Artist automatically projects to everyone else that we know everything that there is about art! Though we know that is not always true, I love the challenges that I have been faced with as an artist and continue to seek out ideas to problems or spaces that often do not even exist yet.
